The Minotaur

about

I created this song mostly on my newly-bought electric piano, which if you're interested is a Casio Privia PX-130. The Casio has a kind of rehearsal/recording feature where you can make a recording and then play it back and play over the top of it. It's mostly used for practicing such as recording one hand playing and then practicing the other, but I used it to make this two-part song. For ease I recorded the parts seperately, but it would have been possible to make it a 'one take' if I could have been bothered practicing it a bit more.

The synth part bubbling underneath was courtesy of--surprise, surprise--the Micro Korg.

I was probably thinking about Tori Amos' cover of Slayer's 'Raining Blood' (!) when I came up with the piano part. I was definitely thinking about it when I did the synth part. So yeah, I guess I totally ripped that song off.

It's called The Minotaur because it sounds kind of dark and moody. I was recently on placement in a school where the children were learning the story of Theseus and the Minotaur, and so I was probably thinking about the labyrinth or whatever.

The song would probably be improved with some distant vocals. But I didn't record any because it was late.
